Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressed his disappointment in a candid interview this week, revealing his frustration when two players rejected the captaincy. However, he chose not to Ԁisclose their identities.

A source has now disclosed further details, stating, “Paul Pogba was offered the captaincy but indicated his desire to leave the club, leading him to turn it down. Rashford was also approached for the captaincy, but he expressed reservations, feeling he wasn’t ready for such a responsibility.”

Solskjaer appointed Harry Maguire as captain

Earlier in the week, Solskjaer criticized certain players he believes contributed to his departure from Old Trafford in November 2021, stating, “Some weren’t as good as their own perception of themselves. I won’t nɑme names, but I was very disappointed when a couple turned down the chance to be captain. I was also disappointed when others said they wouldn’t play or train because they wɑnted to force their way out.”

Solskjaer took over as caretaker manager at Old Trafford in December 2018 before being appointed permanently in March 2019. The captaincy transitioned from Antonio Valencia to Ashley Young after the former’s departure, and eventually, Harry Maguire assumed the role following Young’s move to Inter Milan.
