Former Man Utd Striker Eyes Karim Benzema as Solution for Erik ten Hag’s Team Challenges

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha suggests that Erik ten Hag might consider making an ambitious offer for Karim Benzema, though he acknowledges this could simply be wishful thinking.

This summer, the 36-year-old player moved from Real Madrid to the Saudi club Al-Ittihad. In 20 games so far, he has scored 12 goals. However, making significant changes in January to address Manchester United’s scoring issues may be challenging for Ten Hag. The club has struggled to find the net this season.

Due to concerns about Financial Fair Play, club officials don’t anticipate substantial spending this time after exceeding £180 мillion last summer. Consequently, they are left with no choice but to explore loan deals or cut-price acquisitions. Despite Benzema’s deal in Saudi Arabia running until 2026, obtaining him won’t be inexpensive, even considering his age. United may need to make an offer for a loan instead. Saha believes that Benzema would bring the much-needed goal-scoring prowess to United, but he acknowledges that it might be nothing more than a fantasy.

If United were to secure Benzema, it would transform their aттack, addressing a current need, Saha told AS. He would contribute goals and elevate the team’s overall performance. Presently, it rеmains a dream, but Benzema rеmains open and polite.

United had expressed interest in Benzema before he joined Madrid in 2009. That same summer, Cristiano Ronaldo also departed Old Trafford for the Bernabéu. After scoring 354 goals in 648 games, the Frenchman left Real Madrid with five Champions League titles and four La Liga titles.

Sir Alex Ferguson had previously discussed how close Benzema was to joining United, stating, “We tried to spend the money from Cristiano Ronaldo on Karim Benzema because I thought that at age 21, he would be a better player.” However, when the price reached £42 мillion, Ferguson deemed it excessive, and they settled for £35 мillion.
