Martyn Lawrence Bullard, an interior designer, says working with a 26-year-old who loves design almost as much as he does is an amazing experience. Bullard was involved in Kylie Jenner’s most recent house makeover.
The sprawling modern home is situated in the gated enclave of Hidden Hills, California, and features large glass windows that let in an abundance of natural light and provide a view of the surrounding area.
Additionally, Kris Jenner, Kylie’s mother, and her prominent siblings live nearby.
Jenner uses her living room ottoman as a balance point. Custom-made golden mirrors and an artwork by Jean-Michel Basquiat are located behind her. Visit grahamandgreen.co.uk to see a large selection of velvet pouffes.
Bullard aimed to design a house that was as luxurious as it was cosy. His goal was to softly integrate brand allusions while personalising the area to capture Jenner’s exuberant spirit.
“I had her dining chairs upholstered with leather that was specially dyed to match the tones of the lipsticks in her cosmetic kits,” he explains. Another reference to Jenner’s love of striking makeup is that “bronze consoles were also sculpted to look like giant molten drips of gold.”
Chairs in the dining room were specially dyed in hues that complemented Jenner’s pink lipsticks. Artworks by Damien Hirst adorn the walls. At roche-bobois.com, an assortment of large pendant lights may be found.
The bedroom’s sitting area features unique furniture wrapped in sheepskin. The Damien Hirst prints on the walls are set against a subtle backdrop of rose gold and pink wallpaper. Visit uk.jonathanadler.com for chairs and a sofa that look similar.
Numerous rooms were also transformed into speciality areas. For example, the handbag room was designed to hold hundreds of bags, including some of the rarest Hermès Birkins in the world.
The price of the Hermès Himalaya Kelly is £600,000.
Designed as an area apart from her closet, Jenner’s VIP dressing room featured floating Lucite wardrobes to house her most recognisable attire from Met Galas and commercial campaigns.
Alec Monopoly, a street artist, created the portrait of Jenner that takes centre stage in the bar area. See also the condom artwork by Beau Dunn and the surfboard by Saint Laurent. For leopard-spot stools, see cultfurniture.com.
Glass, suede, and chrome were used to build shoe towers and sunglasses stands. Dress fittings often featured rotating mirrors mounted on polished steel platforms. Next is Jenner’s “glam room,” where she records her TikTok and Instagram videos and keeps her makeup.
Statement pieces of art finish the ensemble and provide insight into Jenner’s preferences. She loves butterflies, thus one of her first purchases for her house was Damien Hirst’s artwork of butterflies.
A Warhol Dollar Sign and a Tracey Emin neon light piece are located in the games room/sitting room space. The tables are old Karl Springer, while the sofa dates back to the king of mid-century modern design Milo Baughman. You may get slogan neon art at godsownjunkyard.co.uk.
In addition to her admiration of Marilyn Monroe, Jenner is also a big fan of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s edgier works and Andy Warhol’s renowned images.
What was the outcome? a room that is colourful, daring, and most of all, enjoyable.
The family room is distinguished by the chimney surround covered in black marble. The main seating area is the custom Ralph Pucci swing sofa, with Kelly Wearstler marble tables on either side.
