A coach for the Kansas City Chiefs has asserted that Taylor Swift attended some of the team’s games discreetly last season before her relationship with Travis Kelce became public in the fall.
Dave Merritt, on a recent episode of ‘The Sports Shop with Reese and K-Mac’ podcast, disclosed that the singer began expressing her support for the team’s starting tight end before making her first public appearance at a game in Kansas City in September.
According to the Chiefs’ defensive backs coach, Swift’s early appearances were private, going unnoticed until the camera brought attention to it. Merritt, a member of the Chiefs since 2019, mentioned that the players were supportive of the couple’s relationship right from the start, even if it meant increased exposure for the team, and Swift was warmly welcomed into their inner circle.
”There were many people who disliked her being shown on TV, but you know what? You’re part of our family because you’re with Travis,’ he stated. ‘So, therefore, you’re our little sister… You’re part of our family.’
Swift, who recently arrived in Singapore after completing four performances in Australia as part of her ‘Eras’ Tour, kept her relationship with Kelce under wraps last summer. However, she didn’t attend a Chiefs game until they played against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 24.
The ‘You Belong with Me’ singer attended a total of 13 Chiefs games last season, including one in New York. She shared a moment with Kelce after the team’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game last month.
They shared another kiss after Kelce secured his third Sᴜper Bowl ring on Feb. 11. Kelce reciprocated the support by attending Swift’s concerts in Sydney, Australia, last week and in Argentina last November.
