NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson, currently holding positions as president and vice president of basketball at Reebok, have hinted at the possible reissue of JAY-Z and 50 Cent’s iconic sneakers in collaboration with the brand.
During an episode of Complex’s “Sneaker Shopping” series that aired on Monday (March 4), the basketball icons expressed their desire to see the return of the rappers’ early-2000s Reebok collaborations. Host Joe La Puma initiated the conversation by discussing JAY-Z’s surprise appearance at the Super Bowl in his 2003 S. Carter Reebok shoe, known as the S Dots.
Shaq and Iverson, acknowledging their connection with JAY-Z, expressed interest in bringing back the iconic sneakers. When La Puma mentioned rumors about the potential revival of 50 Cent’s G-Unit Reebok collaboration from the same era, Shaq’s response fueled speculation of their imminent return.
“Of course, so 50, when I call you, holla, JAY-Z, we’ll be calling ya. We definitely want to give the fans and the consumer what they want, but we’re also gonna be coming with new styles and new technologies. But, shout out to JAY-Z, shout out to 50 Cent. We definitely will be having a conversation with them very soon,” Shaq declared.
JAY-Z’s Gucci-inspired shoes and 50 Cent’s G-Unit sneakers, initially released in 2003, significantly boosted Reebok’s sales and market share. While JAY-Z’s partnership with Reebok concluded in 2006, the recent remarks from Shaq and Iverson have sparked excitement among fans, hinting at a potential return of these iconic collaborations.
