While we eagerly await any updates regarding the names of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s twins, we’ve been treated to an interim delight: Blue Ivy Carter’s freestyle rap on Jay-Z’s latest album, 4:44.
The deeply personal album, where Jay-Z discusses his infidelities and his mother’s coming out as a lesbian, among other revelations, was released exclusively on Tidal last week. However, on Thursday evening, one of the bonus tracks—previously unheard—surfaced on the Internet, featuring an up-and-coming rap talent . . . who just so happens to be only five years old and the daughter of two of the most famous artists on the planet.
Yes, this is “Blue’s Freestyle.” It’s pretty fantastic! Particularly delightful is the repeated exclamation of “Boom shakalaka.” Between her recent A+ dance recital performance and now this, Blue is already more artistically and creatively accomplished than most fully grown adults we know.
Interestingly, this isn’t Blue’s first appearance on one of her father’s albums—she sang the hook on his 2012 song “Glory,” which was released two days after Blue was born. (Just kidding about the hook; the song does include a sample of her crying at the end, though.)
