Carter tells PEOPLE, “My dad taught me a lot about just being in the business.” “Being in this business since he was 12, he taught me to have thick skin, always be true to myself, and never let anyone tell me what I can or cannot do.”

Lil Wayne, Reginae Carter, and their mom were at a NYX Professional Makeup party for stars.

“If you put your mind to it and have the back for it, if you’re going to back up whatever you put out in front, you’re good,” she says.

Carter, who has been on Social Society and played in the limited series Terror Lake Drive, says that people in the business have been mean to her since she was five years old. She says she doesn’t let hate get to her, though, and that makes her feel better.

“I definitely have a thick skin because of everything I’ve been through in this business, with all the lies and things I have to hear about my parents,” she says. “And even my aunts and other people I grew up with work in this industry that they talk about and write about in the news.”

The “Boxed In” star also says that her family doesn’t let bad things happen to them because they “just know who they are.”

Carter says that she doesn’t feel rushed to reach any goals by a certain age, just before her 25th birthday in November.

She tells PEOPLE, “I don’t set goals or standards for where I want to go because I have such high hopes for myself.” “Even now. I want what I do today to be even bigger tomorrow.

The star also says she’s grateful for her parents. Carpenter says, “Because I wouldn’t be who I am if it weren’t for them. If it wasn’t for my mom putting me down and teaching me class, teaching me how to get around to become an educated, beautiful young lady.”

Carter worked with NYX Professional Makeup on their Halloween campaign, NYX Mon-Stars. The campaign, which was made in collaboration with Universal Studios, brought old monsters into the modern era.

Carter, on the other hand, was turned into a “Mummi Twin” along with model Sydney Bell. The look, which was made by SFX makeup artist Mimi Choi, took seven hours to make, the star told PEOPLE.

She was used to it and said, “Everyone had fun.” We put on some music. Making up is fun for everyone.
