A lot of people say that Lil Wayne got a special degree from the University of Houston, but he didn’t. I called the university to make sure of this.

Lil Wayne (Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.), one of the most famous singers of all time, doesn’t need to go to school. It is well known that the artist took classes in psychology in 2005 at the University of Houston.

Lil Wayne has said in interviews and according to many sources that he will be going to the University of Houston.

Lil Wayne did not get an honors degree from Houston University in 2008, though. This is said on a lot of websites, like Revolt, AllHipHop, The List, and BestAccreditedColleges.

The problem became clear to me as I researched rappers with college degrees. I looked into it and found Lil Wayne more than once.

I couldn’t find any reliable sites that confirmed Lil Wayne’s degree. I talked to someone at the University of Houston, and they confirmed that the rapper did not get a degree.

No coverage in the news

Honorary degrees are given to a lot of rappers. When rappers get honorary degrees, the university generally sends out a press release and local news outlets cover it. Just look at this one about Missy Elliot, Dizzee Rascal, and LL Cool J.

There are no news releases for Lil Wayne. Nothing came up in my thorough search.

Lil Wayne is one of the most famous singers of all time, so it makes sense that a college would post about his graduation on their website or some other way.

Aside from not getting any press attention, Lil Wayne’s honorary degree is rarely talked about in reputable publications.

The Daily Cougar, a student newspaper at the University of Houston, wrote about Lil Wayne as a 2016 commencement guest in 2015. Everyone knows that Lil Wayne never finished college.

But what’s more important is that they point out that Jim Nantz, who is also writing a commencement speech, was given an honors degree in 2001. There is no word of Lil Wayne getting such a degree.

Official records from the university

Finally, records from the University of Houston show that no special doctorates were given out in 2008.

In theory, the school could have given non-doctoral degrees without making them public. But this isn’t true.

When I asked for this list of honorary degrees from the institution of Houston, they quickly replied and confirmed that it was correct. It looks like Lil Wayne has not been given an honors degree by the university.
