Miami Beach officials have revoked Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Key to the City, nearly nine years after he received the honor.
As reported by TMZ, the decision to sever ties with the 54-year-old rapper stems from his tarnished reputation amid ongoing sеxual assault allegations and lawsuits.
An insider revealed that the resolution was passed unanimously during a hearing on Wednesday, led by Mayor Steven Meiner and the city commission, though Meiner has yet to finalize the signing of the resolution.
The decision was sponsored by Commissioners Joe Magazine, David Suarez, Tanya Katzoff Bhatt, and Alex Fernandez.
Diddy was initially awarded the honorary key in 2015 by former Mayor Philip Levine during the Revolt Music Conference at the Fontainebleau, recognized for his musical contributions and involvement in establishing the conference in Miami Beach.
The city has also bestowed keys to other celebrities, including Diddy’s ex, Jennifer Lopez.
A few months ago, Combs was also asked to return the Key to the City of New York.
He returned the key in June after Mayor Eric Adams requested it back in a letter.
In his correspondence, the mayor asked for the key’s return following the release of a video showing Combs assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in hotel surveillance footage, which sparked significant controversy.
In the letter, Mayor Adams expressed his support for survivors of domestic abuse and emphasized that the Key to the City is awarded to exemplary citizens, stating that Combs no longer met the necessary criteria.
Footage resurfaced in September of the mayor, who is currently facing his own criminal charges, presenting the key to Combs, nearly a year after it was awarded.
Additionally, Combs received the Key to the City of Chicago in October 2006 from former Mayor Richard Daley.
It remains unclear if Chicago has also decided to revoke that honor.
