In an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Jamie Foxx shared how he taught Diddy how to host a fun party on a budget. When they first met, Foxx pretended to be Diddy’s cameraman, leading to an unusual start to their friendship as they began attending some of Diddy’s events together.
After one extravagant party, Foxx recalled Diddy saying, “Yo playboy, this party costs a million and a half dollars.” Foxx responded, “You’re insane! I told Puff I could throw a party for $400 that would rival this one.” Although Diddy was initially skeptical, he later agreed and asked Foxx to prove it the next time he was in Los Angeles. When Diddy arrived, Foxx set out to impress him by inviting “200 of the coolest people” he knew.
“Check out the dinner table, Puff—I got Kentucky Fried Chicken on a nice dish and poured Coca-Cola into a pitcher. We’re kᎥlling it right now at just $208,” Foxx joked.
Foxx, who was known for his memorable house parties, explained that he had a studio at home and would host gatherings with a purpose. Since Diddy was a major name in music, Foxx saw it as an opportunity to break into the industry himself. This approach paid off, as Foxx eventually transitioned from acting to music, earning numerous awards in the process.
