Ulrich’s marital journey began in 1988 when he married Debbie Jones, a British woman he met while on tour. However, their marriage ended in divorce in 1990, around the time of the recording sessions for Metallica’s iconic “Black Album.”

His second marriage was to Skylar Satenstein, an emergency medicine physician, in 1997. This marriage lasted until 2004, during which they welcomed two sons, Layne and Myles. After their divorce, Ulrich’s sons followed in his musical footsteps and formed their own band, Taipei Houston.

After his split from Satenstein, Ulrich was in a long-term relationship with Danish actress Connie Nielsen from 2004 to 2012. The couple had a son together during their time as partners.

In 2015, Ulrich married American fashion model Jessica Miller, marking his most recent marriage.
